President met with the builder on numerous occasions in an effort to:

  • Establish Enterprise Estates as the Potomac of Prince George's County
  • Have streetlights installed throughout community
  • Plant Flowering Cherry trees throughout community. However, due to blight in North Carolina, we had to substitute Flowering Crabapple
  • Install gas lanterns throughout community. These were installed initially, but because of gas shortage had to substitute electric lanterns

Build Recreation Park to serve entire community - Bill Radcliffe, Chairperson

  • Tennis Court
  • Basketball Court
  • Soccer Field
  • Phil Urquhart used his equipment (free of charge) to level field
  • 20-30 members of the community spent an entire Saturday raking and planting bushes at the recreation area

Park & Planning Commission

  • Participated in development of 5 and 10 year plans with Commission
  • Fought against having exit from Rt. 50 onto Enterprise Road
  • Would encourage business development, such as gas stations, stores, etc.
  • Would increase traffic on Enterprise Road
  • Made our case at Upper Marlboro Courthouse - John Gill presented the Enterprise Estates position with many members of the community in attendance

Japanese Beetle Eradication Project

  • Japanese Beetles were rampant throughout community
  • Richard Kosko and Elsie Ornburn canvassed homes and collected fees
  • Minimum $12 and maximum $20 based on size of lot.
  • Kosko arranged to have milky spore put down (90+% participation)

Block Party held on Baskerville Drive in 1974 and had a significant turnout

Soccer Team - Bowie Rainbow League

  • One of the initial highlights of the community was the mixed men/women soccer team which participated in the Bowie Rainbow League and played every Saturday. Approximately 25-30 members of the community participated and were coached by Bill Radcliffe. Our team went undefeated over a couple of years and certainly created a lot of camaraderie
